One of the perks of talking about board games so much online is that you meet people who work in the business and LOVE to show you their new games. I was lucky enough to meet up with the owners of Weird Giraffe Games a few months ago and they let me borrow a demo copy of their upcoming 2-player game “Logic and Lore” and WOW is it a great one for lunch breaks!
It’s a logic puzzle - you have a table of cards 1-9 but they are all mixed together. Depending on which difficulty level you pick (Star Light or Star Bright) you have specific questions you can ask on your turn to try to figure out where a card should move to. Once you get a “yes” answer, your turn ends, but otherwise you might have anywhere from 3-5 questions you can ask on a turn.
The game comes with a set of tokens to help track cards as you shuffle them around the board. These two cards are sequential? Token! This card is on the correct half of the board? Token! (Believe me, this is required if you want to win because you might think you remember which cards you moved last turn…but after you look away to respond to your opponent’s questions…POOF they are gone!
The demo copy pictured above has little cat tokens, but in the final games, they will be dragons as part of a series of games from Weird Giraffe, featuring mice and dragons working together. The game ends when someone has all their numbers face up and in order - usually by figuring out the last one OR if they are brave, saying they are aligned and flipping each over one by one.
We can usually play about 2 games over the course of our 45 minute lunch break - it took a few games to really get a strategy but after that you have a few go-to questions and you stop asking about the cards you are pretty sure are aligned and just focus on the ones you are clueless about.
If you’re interested in a copy, pre-orders with access to the Kickstarter pledge manager are online now! If you’re into print & play, you can get the card files on itch.io for $1 and try it before you buy. Check out their other games and support indie game publishers!
